Kaminagahiko smiled broadly and,
Why should I be afraid of a mere shokushinjin? As proof of that, I shall slay it for you right here and now, with no trouble at all, and you shall see." So saying, he gave the spotted dog a pat on the back
and commanded in a brave voice, "Kame, Kame! Bite to death the shokushinjin at the back of this cave, and do it in a single bite!"
At once the spotted dog bared its fangs and, growling like thunder, dashed headlong into the cave. In no time at all it came back out again, wagging its tail, with the shokushinjin's blood-soaked head still in its jaws.
Then, strangely enough, at that very moment a gust of wind swept up from the bottom of the cloud-filled valley, and there was something in that wind, which
said in a gentle voice, "Kaminagahiko, thank you. I shall never forget this kindness. I am Komahime of Mount Ikoma, whom the shokushinjin was tormenting."
The princess, however, was so happy at having her life saved that she did not seem to hear this voice at all. Presently she turned toward Kaminagahiko, and this is what she said, with an anxious look:
Thanks to you, my life has been saved. But where can my younger sister be at this hour, and what dreadful things may she be suffering?"
When Kaminagahiko heard this, he stroked the white dog's head once more
and said, "Kage, Kage! Sniff out where the princess has gone!"
At once the white dog,
looking up into its master's face and twitching its nose, answered, "Woof, woof! The princess, her younger sister, is the captive of the tsuchigumo that lives in a cave on Mount Kasagi."
This tsuchigumo was a wicked dwarf, one of the kind that Emperor Jinmu had once, long ago, gone forth and subdued.
So Kaminagahiko tucked two of the dogs under his arms as before, climbed onto the black dog's back together with the princess,
and said, "Tobe, Tobe! Fly to the tsuchigumo that lives in the cave on Mount Kasagi!" At once the black dog rose into the sky and began racing, swifter than an arrow, toward Mount Kasagi, which likewise towered up among trailing blue clouds.

Now, when they reached Mount Kasagi, they found that the tsuchigumo living there was an exceedingly cunning creature. The moment it caught sight of Kaminagahiko, it deliberately put on a broad, friendly smile and came out to the mouth of the cave to welcome him,
saying, "Well, well, Kaminagahiko! How good of you to come all this long way. Do come in, come this way. I have nothing worth offering, but at least let me treat you to a fresh deer's liver, or perhaps an unborn bear cub."
But Kaminagahiko shook his head
and scolded it with terrible fury: "No, no! I have come to take back the princess you carried off. Hand her over at once and all will be well. Otherwise I'll kill you just like that shokushinjin, so mark my words!"
At this the tsuchigumo shrank up all at once in fright
and said in a trembling voice, "Oh, of course I shall return her! How could I ever say no to anything you command? The princess is right here at the back, quite alone. Please, step inside without the least hesitation and take her away with you."
So Kaminagahiko went into the cave, taking the elder princess and the three dogs with him, and sure enough, here too was a lovely princess with a silver comb in her hair, softly and sadly weeping.
Startled to sense someone coming, she quickly looked toward them, and the instant she caught sight of her elder sister's face,
Sister!"
Little sister!" The two princesses ran to each other from either side at the same moment, and for a while they held each other close, lost in tears of joy.
Kaminagahiko, too, was moved to tears at this sight, when suddenly the three dogs bristled up the fur on their backs and

Grammar
N2 humbly show / do something for someone to see
This is the humble equivalent of 〜てみせる. It means doing something before a superior so that they can witness it. Kaminagahiko uses it to speak politely to the princess while boasting of what he will do.
I shall slay it for you right here and now, with no trouble at all, and you shall see.
N4 while still in the state of ~
It attaches to the た-form and shows that a state continues while another action happens. Here the dog comes out still holding the head in its mouth.
it came back out, wagging its tail, with the shokushinjin's blood-soaked head still in its jaws
N1 the moment ~, no sooner ~ than
It follows a dictionary-form verb and shows that the next action follows immediately. It is a literary expression.
the moment it caught sight of Kaminagahiko
N1 if ~, fine; otherwise ~
〜ばよし is an old, terse way of saying 'if you do ~, all is well'. さもなければ means 'if not' and introduces the threat. This makes it a blunt ultimatum.
Hand her over at once and all will be well. Otherwise I'll kill you just like that shokushinjin, so mark my words!
N2 of course, certainly
When とも is added to the end of a sentence, it strongly affirms what is said, like 'of course!'. The frightened tsuchigumo uses it to agree eagerly.
Oh, of course I shall return her!
